During the summer of 2004 many youth in the southwest region of Manitoba participated in a youth inclusion survey.  The objective of this survey was to learn the degree to which youth in the southwest are involved in their communities.  Youth were also asked to provide some general opinions regarding local opportunities for education, employment, and recreation.

Many participants in the youth inclusion survey indicated that they were interested in becoming involved in their communities if they were not already involved.  Participating youth also indicated that they were interested in local education and the manner in which their communities cared for the natural environment.

The youth inclusion survey provided an excellent step toward the upcoming Southwest Regional Round Table Community Learning Network project.  Using information collected in the youth inclusion survey, as well as some more in depth research aimed directly at CLN the SWRRT hopes to establish improved educational opportunities for southwestern youth.

The attention youth paid to the environment in the inclusion survey adds additional validity for the need for the Eco Action project.  Youth indicated that they want to see their communities take care of the natural environment, and the Eco Action project will provide southwestern communities with additional ideas for economic development that will be sustainable in the natural environment.
